St Anne's Cathedral
Show all photos
St Anne’s Cathedral is an Episcopalian Cathedral forming part of the Church of Ireland. It is unusual in the fact it has two Bishop’s seats as it serves two dioceses. The architecture of the building is a combination of both Basilican and Roman-esque styles with the beginning of construction signified by the laying of the first stone in 1899. Another unusual characteristic of the church is that the building began construction around the original church which continued being used until 1903, so the members of the congregation would have seen the walls go up around them! Show your students this unique part of Belfast’s history and architecture with a visit to this fantastic cathedral.
