Located in Washington D.C, the Smithsonian American Art Museum first opened in its current location in 1968. The Museum houses an extensive collection of American Art and has a variety of American art that covers movements and regions found in the USA. There are two innovative public spaces which the museum is made up of, the Luce Foundation Centre for American Art and the Lunder Conservation Center. The Luce Foundation Centre is the first visible art storage and study centre in Washington D.C, presenting more than 3,300 objects. Your students will be able to go onto interactive computers which are available, proving information about every object on display. The Lunder Conservation Centre was the first art conservation facility to allow the public permanent-behind-the-scene views of preservation work by a through a floor-to-ceiling glass. Your students will be able to see the techniques used by conservation staff such as how they examine, treat and preserve artworks.
