Geysir Geothermal Area
Show all photos
This area is full of hot springs, exploding geysers and bubbling pools of mud. Indeed Geysir has Iceland’s largest geyser and lends its name to all others. Although Geysir is less active these days, Strokkur spouts water high into the air every few minutes.
Please note, in order to gain access to the Geysir site there is now a on the spot fee imposed by the Land Owners Association of Geysir (approx. 4 Euros per person), for anyone aged 16 years or over. This cannot be pre-paid and must be paid in cash on the day. You can still see the sprouting geyser ‘Strokkur’ from the road, but cannot access the land itself without paying the access fee.
