The Ellis Island is an island in New York Harbour and was a gateway for millions of immigrants. In 1965 the island was made a part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument and has hosted a museum of immigration since the year 1990. On the island your students can visit the immigration museum which was originally built in 1892. However after five years it burnt down due to it being made of wood, it was rebuilt and opened in 1900. The Ellis Island Immigration Museum is one of the most popular historic sites in the United States of America. Your students will be able to visit the museum and look at many items within the museum such as artefacts, photographs, prints, videos, interactive displays, oral histories, and temporary exhibits.
