During the late 1940s and early 1950s, the Cobra art movement shook the creative industries in the Netherlands with its avant-garde expressionist style that continues to be felt within art today.

The Cobra Museum of Modern Art was opened in 1995 in order to preserve the heritage of the movement and continue its artistic presence in contemporary art today.

The museum houses a large collection of Cobra pieces as well as items documenting the history of the movement and the artists heavily involved. As well as its permanent collection the museum also holds frequent temporary exhibitions representing other movements within contemporary art.

The exhibitions on offer at the museum are also supported with activities both educational and cultural which allow students further to explore the history and significance of the Cobra movement.
