The Clink Prison Museum is built upon the original site of the historic Clink Prison in Southwark. The site's impressive history dates back to 1144 meaning it is not only one of England’s most notorious prisons, but also definitely one of, if not the oldest in the country. The museum allows students to step back in time and experience the gruesome truth of the historic site with a range of immersive and hands-on experiences. Groups can view and handle many of the prison's collection of artefacts such as torture devices and experience the sounds, sights and even smells of the former prison! The site has witnessed over 600 years of Britain’s history and the turbulent political and social changes throughout 6 centuries, making it the perfect location for a unique lesson into London’s history. Nestled in Old Bankside, present-day Southwark this area of the city was once revered for being London’s loud, disruptive neighbour, ensuring ample stories and accounts from former prisoners and staff will bring this exhibit to life.
