Cheddar Gorge
Winner of the School Travel Awards “Best Venue for History Learning 2018” Cheddar Gorge is a fascinating example of a limestone gorge and the finest in Britain. Its intriguing history and the science behind its creation will astound and inspire your students. A product of the last Ice Age torrents of water rapidly eroded the Carboniferous Limestone until it was left high and dry as drainage went underground. In the present day, its impressive cliffs support and sustain many delicate and important semi-natural habitats. Students can marvel at its two show caves and their impressive natural chambers, a truly unique and inspirational experience. A compelling history over 500,000 years in the making the gorge will engage students in topics such as the Karst landscape, landforms and processes.
