School trips to London will be pleased to hear that the V&A will stage a major exhibition on British Post-war Art and Design to coincide with the London Olympic Games in 2012. The exhibition, British Design 1948-2012, will celebrate classic examples of post-war British design showcasing more than seven decades of British creative talent and innovation from the 1948 "Auserity Olympics" to the summer of 2012. Drawing on the V&A's unrivalled collections and complemented by works drawn from across Britain, the exhibition will bring together more than 300 objects telling the story of British fashion, furniture, fine art, graphic design, photography, ceramics, architecture and industrial products over the past 60 years.

It will be the first comprehensive exhibition to examine the ways in which artists and designers who were born, trained or worked in the UK have produced innovative and internationally acclaimed works from post war to the present day. Students on a school trip to London will be spoilt for choice and will have the opportunity to explore a diverse array of works that will chart the development of British design in all its forms featuring much loved designs such as the 1961 E-type Jaguar, a Brownie Vecta Camera by Kenneth Grange (1964), an Alexander McQueen evening gown from the Horn of Plenty collection (2009), a six metre model of Concorde, a recreation of Manchester's The Hacienda nightclub, textiles by Laura Ashley (1983) and a Moulton bicycle to name but a few.
