Religious Studies School Trips: An Overview
Religious Studies School Trips: An Overview
Here at we at Adaptable Travel we want to create Religious Studies school trips that offer an insightful experience into the impact religion has on our lives and give students the opportunity to learn about religion in the very places that those religion blossomed.
Historically in a lot of schools, there was one predominant religion followed by pupils and teachers. However, with the diversity of UK cities expanding which give students the opportunity to learn and understand different points of view and ways of life, Religious Studies school trips have never more important for offering children real life lessons in tolerance and acceptance.
School trips give students the opportunity to face challenges head on and in real time and with Religious Studies being a mixture of spiritualism and history, what better way for students to learn than getting physically immersed in different cultures - both past and present.
We’ve gathered together some of our Religious Studies trips that we offer to give you an overview and a little bit of information on why we think each one is a fantastic and important place to visit:
Krakow
Krakow has been an important religious centre in Europe for the last thousand years so it’s no surprise that the city plays host to a number of important religious sites. Krakow has also ensured the preservation of a number of sites relating to the Holocaust - no Religious Studies school trip to Krakow would be complete without a trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau. There aren’t any words can really do the site justice and visiting, without resorting to hyperbole, feels important. One of the most important ways that we all learn is to learn the lessons of the past and say, never again.
Venice
As you probably already know, Venice is the city that used to be its own country and was one of the most powerful players on the European stage. It may no longer be known as the Most Serene Republic of Venice, but it still punches well above its weight when it comes to Religious Studies school trips. There are a whole host of stunning churches for students to visit such as the Santa Maria Della Salute and the iconic Piazza San Marco. Here, students can take in the magnificence of the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica which on their own make a trip to Venice is a must for anybody.
Rome
As a city that has played host to a number of religions over the millennia, Rome is the perfect city to take students on a Religious Studies school trip. From Jupiter to Jesus, Rome has seen them all! Students will have the opportunity to take in some of Rome's most famous landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum. Also on offer here at Adaptable Travel we have a fantastic guided tour of Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel and the Church of St Peter's. What better place to study religion that in the home of Catholicism and the deathbed of many other failed religions?
Amsterdam
With the official emblem of Amsterdam featuring the three crosses of St Andrew, a fisherman who was martyred on an X-shaped cross in the 1st century, the city has plenty of religious history for students to sink their teeth into. The best place to start in Amsterdam is Anne Frank's House. The rooms where the famous wartime diarist hid have been maintained and turned into a museum for students to explore. Amsterdam also plays host to the Jewish History Museum and the Jewish Memorial and just outside Amsterdam you will find Kamp Amersfoort, a Nazi Concentration camp that housed over 35,000 prisoners. There are also other camps in the area that are now museums that can be visited to explore the horrors of the second world war and a series of perhaps lesser known religious events.
We hope that this has provided a useful insight on what you can expect when coming on a Religious Studies school trip with Adaptable Travel.
