Barcelona and Lloret de Mar Travel Blog- St John Fisher High School
Below is an account written by Vicki Fazackerley of St John Fisher High School about their recent study trip to Barcelona in February 2015
On a cold Sunday afternoon on 8th February, 58 Year 9 pupils departed Liverpool Airport to embark on a three night trip to Barcelona, the capital city of Catalonia. The first stop on the tour was Camp Nou, the home of FC Barcelona, where students firstly visited the museum to discover interesting facts about the club. They then went pitch-side, into the changing rooms and to the lofty heights of the commentary boxes. They also had the opportunity to have photos taken with the trophies and with legends such as Lionel Messi (unfortunately a hologram rather than the man himself!). The group ended the tour at the gift shop where many presents and souvenirs were bought.
We had lunch al fresco in Parc Guell where we witnessed the extraordinary work of Antonio Gaudi. After Parc Guell we then headed to the Palacio Nacional and saw amazing panoramic views of the city. From here we walked to the Olympic Stadium where the 1992 Barcelona Olympic games took place and where Linford Christie and Sally Gunnell won gold medals for Great Britain. The final activity of the first day was a visit to the bowling alley where pupils were able to enjoy a game of bowling following their action-packed day out.
After a refreshing sleep, we set out for another full day excursion to Barcelona. The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia was the first stop on the tour, a fascinating piece of architecture designed by Gaudi, that is infamous for being unfinished. We took wonderful photographs, capturing its detail and beauty. The coach driver then took the group to Plaza Catalunya where we ate our picnics before heading to Las Ramblas, the famous street that runs through Barcelona. The sun was shining on us as we walked along Las Ramblas, visiting La Boquería market and venturing down the side streets to see the impressive Cathedral. At the end of Las Ramblas we walked through the marina and along the coastal path until we reached the Barceloneta beach where we were able to rest our weary legs.
Back at the hotel, pupils had time to use the hotel's indoor swimming pool and, after the evening meal, we danced the night away in the hotel disco. We departed early the next morning for our flight back to Liverpool. The trip was enjoyed by all and the staff accompanying the pupils were very proud of the way in which they had conducted themselves.
