Home to such famous and iconic landmarks as the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag, Berlin has developed from a city in transition to a modern cosmopolitan city that is perfect for all school trips.
Berlin specifically carries great significance as a destination for students studying Nazi Germany and World War II. With a vast array of museums and historical attractions the city brings to life the dramatic events of World War II in detailed fashion ensuring students never underestimate or forget the terrible acts that took place during the war.
In addition, the new History Curriculum modules that focus on the Cold War ensure that Berlin has even more prominence at an ideal history destination for your students, with communist and Cold War sites such as Checkpoint Charlie, TV Tower, DDR Museum and much more all available for your group to explore. Adaptable Travel can help tailor your trip to ensure your cover the aspects of the curriculum important to you.
A school trip to Berlin offers a unique opportunity for school groups to see first hand the history of this city that shaped the world’s history, putting textbook into context.

After arriving in Berlin, subject to your flight time you may have enough time to explore some of Berlin’s sites before you check into your accommodation. If this is the case, we suggest you head straight to the Berlin Wall memorial to get an overview of the significance of this structure to the city. Afterwards you will head onto your accommodation, and we can even book you an evening meal at the accommodation or local restaurant if required.
Today your students will have the chance to explore the impacts of the Nazis with a visit to the Jewish Museum to see the impacts of the Nazi actions. This will be followed by guided insider walking tour, taking in a visit to the Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburgh Gate and the Reichstag parliament building (please note the Reichstag needs to be booked directly by the school, but we can assist with contact details). Finally enjoy an evening meal, pre-booked by Adaptable Travel.
Today your students will continue their education of the Nazis by visiting the Topography of Terror, to truly understand the impacts of the Nazi Gestapo, in their HQ. In the afternoon, continue to the famous Checkpoint Charlie, a famous point now dedicated to the history of the East and West divide. Finally, visit the Berlin TV Tower and rise above the city for striking views. Follow this with some free time and an evening meal.
You may have some free time before your return the UK. Extended durations are available – if you decide to extend your stay, we highly recommend visiting the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, located just outside of Berlin (35km). This former Nazi concentration camp, now a museum, was primarily used for political prisoners during WW2. If you have the energy, we highly recommend a visit to the Olmypiastadium –built as a showpiece of the Nazi regime for the infamous 1936 Olympics where Hitler conducted speeches welcoming the world.
