The 16th Annual Association of Colleges conference recognised and rewarded the excellence and innovation of 23 college across the country. Chair of the AoC Beacon Awards, Dame Patricia Morgan-Webb stated: “Beacon winners blaze a trail in finding new ways of doing things”. Amongst those awarded was Student of the Year Thomas Birch from South Nottinghamshire College who recovered from near fatal injuries from time spent as a Marine in Afghanistan. Thomas has to learn to walk and talk again after the injuries, and can now lay claim to being a level 3 personal trainer.
