London Mayor Boris Johnson and Kevin Spacey, artistic director at the Old Vic theatre, have issued a rallying cry for more investment in the arts in London.

Mayor Boris Johnson identifies the arts as a necessity to the economy and culture rather than a luxury. Both will outline their concerns at a keynote speech at the V&A Museum on Monday night. 70% of visitors to London cite the arts and culture as a primary motivating factor behind their visit, and contributing over £16b to the UK economy, the arts are a necessity for the future prosperity of the UK economy.
