Poetry to be explored - “Violets from Plug Street Wood.” Examine the poetry of John William Streets - Killed 1st July 1916, aged 31 Poetry to be explored - “A Soldiers Funeral” and “Comrades.” Visit Thiepval Memorial and examine the poems of Alexander Robertson - Killed 1st July 1916, aged 34. Poetry to be explored - “Lines before Going.” Visit Ors Village Communal Cemetery and examine the poetry of Wilfred Edward Salter Owen - Killed 4th November 1918. Poetry to be explored - “The Sentry" - Serre, "Exposure” - Serre and “Dulce et Decorum Est” A look into the events of 1st July 1916 at Serre which saw the loss of Streets and Robertson. Followed by the nearby locations where Owen wrote The Sentry and Exposure.

Visit Thiepval Orival Wood Cemetery to examine the poetry of Ewart Alan Mackintosh - Killed 21st November 1917, aged 24 Poetry to be explored - “In No Man’s Land” Hammerhead Wood Thiepval Your group will then visit Thiepval (via Connaught Cemetery) the location of Hammerhead Sap where Mackintosh wrote his poem. Visit Devonshire Trench to examine the poetry of William Noel Hodgson - Killed 1st July 1916, aged 23. Poetry to be explored - “Before Action” Your group will then visit the trench which became the grave of Noel Hodgson who wrote Before Action the day before his death on 1st July 19
